What an invoice needs to show in Nigeria.

An invoice in Nigeria carries:

  1. Your name, address and TIN
  2. Your customer’s name and address
  3. An invoice number and the date
  4. A description of the goods or services, with quantity
  5. The amount before VAT, the 7.5% rate and the VAT amount
  6. The total

Questions from Nigeria.

Does Openn Invoice make a proper invoice for Nigeria?

Yes. Add your TIN in settings and each invoice is titled “Invoice”, with VAT worked out line by line at the rate you pick (7.5% and 0%) and totals in Nigerian nairas. What it has to show in Nigeria is listed on this page. Check with your accountant for your case.

Does it file my VAT return?

No. Openn Invoice makes invoices and shows who has paid. It does not file returns or keep full accounts. Paid plans include a tax report and CSV downloads to hand to your accountant.

I am not registered for VAT. Can I still use it?

Yes. Leave the TIN empty in settings and send invoices with no VAT on them.

Can I bill customers outside Nigeria?

Yes. Pick the customer’s country and currency on the invoice. A customer abroad is billed as an export, with no VAT added. You see the reason on the invoice before you send it.

What does it cost in Nigeria?

Free covers 5 invoices a month. Pro is $4 a month or $35 a year, with unlimited invoices, recurring invoices and bank statement matching. Prices for Nigeria are in US dollars and exclude local tax.
