GST

Most goods and services are at 5% or 18% since September 2025, with 40% on a short list of goods and 0.25% and 3% for stones and gold. Inside your state the tax splits into CGST and SGST; to another state it is IGST.

GSTIN

A GSTIN is 15 characters: the two-digit state code, your PAN, an entity number, the letter Z and a check character. With it saved, your invoices are titled “Tax Invoice”. Without it they are a plain “Invoice”.

INR and local dates

Amounts are in Indian rupees, and you can pick another currency on any invoice. A bank statement you upload is read the way banks in India write dates.

Financial year from 1 April

Invoice numbers start a new series each April, so the first invoice of the year is OG/26-27/0001.
