Set for Switzerland

Made for how Switzerland invoices.

VAT

8.1% is the standard rate, 2.6% the reduced rate for food, books and medicines, and 3.8% the special rate for accommodation. Locally the tax is called MWST in German, TVA in French, IVA in Italian.

UID / VAT no.

The UID is CHE followed by nine digits, with MWST, TVA or IVA after it once you are VAT-registered.

CHF and local dates

Amounts are in Swiss francs, and you can pick another currency on any invoice. A bank statement you upload is read the way banks in Switzerland write dates.

Financial year from 1 January

Invoice numbers start a new series each January, so the first invoice of the year is OG/2026/0001.

Getting paid

  1. Send it yourself

Share the invoice from your own email or any app on your phone. The track turns to Viewed when your customer opens it.

  2. Your customer sees how to pay

Customers pay by bank transfer to your IBAN. Openn Invoice prints your bank details and a QR for a payment link; it does not print the Swiss QR-bill payment part.

  3. Match it from your statement

On Pro, upload your bank statement. Dates written like 05/10/2026 are read correctly, and you match each payment in one click.

FAQ

Questions from Switzerland.

Does Openn Invoice make a proper invoice for Switzerland?

Yes. Add your UID / VAT no. in settings and each invoice is titled “Invoice”, with VAT worked out line by line at the rate you pick (8.1%, 3.8%, 2.6% and 0%) and totals in Swiss francs. What it has to show in Switzerland is listed on this page. Check with your accountant for your case.

Does it file my VAT return?

No. Openn Invoice makes invoices and shows who has paid. It does not file returns or keep full accounts. Paid plans include a tax report and CSV downloads to hand to your accountant.

I am not registered for VAT. Can I still use it?

Yes. Leave the UID / VAT no. empty in settings and send invoices with no VAT on them. VAT registration is required once worldwide turnover reaches CHF 100,000 a year.

Can I bill customers outside Switzerland?

Yes. Pick the customer’s country and currency on the invoice. A customer abroad is billed as an export, with no VAT added. You see the reason on the invoice before you send it.

What does it cost in Switzerland?

Free covers 5 invoices a month. Pro is $ 9 a month or $ 79 a year, with unlimited invoices, recurring invoices and bank statement matching. Prices for Switzerland are in US dollars and exclude local tax.

Are the app and the invoices in German, French or Italian?

Not yet. The app and the printed labels on invoices are in English. What you type, such as item descriptions, notes and terms, can be in any language.
